Dizi and Xiao
According to historical records, Xiao and Dizi existed at least 4000 years in China. The earliest material used to make Dizi and Xiao was from the bones of the wings of the big birds. Today it is made from bamboo.
Di was common name for both Dizi and Xiao. Later people separated the two by naming the one which play with vertical blowing position ' Xiao'.
The timbre of Dizi is clear and bright.
The timbre of Xiao is soft and elegant.

最早期的笛箫制作材料为鸟禽翅膀之骨,而竹制笛箫则由黄帝命制而成并沿用至今. 笛,为先期笛箫之统称. 后期,竖吹的得名为萧,横吹的得名为笛.
笛,音色清脆明亮,缭绕穿透. 萧则音色圆润轻柔,幽静典雅.
